Human Development Student Makes WSU History

Human Development senior Nicole Anthony is making WSU history as the university’s student member of the Board of Regents for the 2026–2027 academic year. A Tacoma native who is completing her bachelor’s degree through WSU Global Campus, Anthony is the first Global Campus student to serve as a WSU regent, bringing to the university’s governing board the perspective of an online student who has balanced college with work and parenting. Her professional life has similarly centered on children and families, with experience supporting college access, developing youth leadership, training professionals who work with young people, and creating programs designed to strengthen opportunities for children. As student regent, Anthony joins the 11-member board responsible for overseeing the WSU system and will help bring student perspectives into conversations about the university’s future. Her appointment is especially meaningful for Human Development in that Anthony’s studies complement a professional commitment to understanding how institutions and communities can better serve young people and families. She hopes to use her year on the board to strengthen connections between WSU students and university leadership while representing the varied experiences of students across the WSU system. Anthony is one of three new regents who joined the board this fall, and her first term runs through June 2027. Her appointment offers a remarkable example of where a Human Development education can lead and of the ways HD students are already contributing their perspectives and experiences to leadership at the highest levels of the university.
