Prevention Science Option (120 credits)

The Prevention Science option takes a developmental approach to improving public health. Specifically, this option focuses on:

  1. Identifying risk and protective factors that shape human development throughout the lifespan, and;
  2. Designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions, programs, and policies that promote well-being for individuals, families, and communities.

Graduate School Preparation

This option is a great choice if you are interested in pursuing graduate education in fields such as Prevention Science, Public Health, and Community Psychology.

Career Opportunities

Possible careers for graduates include community coalition coordinator, public health prevention coordinator, and residential youth counselor.

Requirements

  • Students must complete 24 credits, earning a GPA of at least 2.0, to be admitted to the Human Development major.
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.6 or better in all HD courses that apply to the option, including substitutions is required to (a) maintain admission in the major; and (b) complete the Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development.
  • Of the 47 credits required for the major and Prevention Science option, a minimum of 21 must be taken at WSU.
