Family & Consumer Sciences Option (120 credits)

Explore the Family & Consumer Sciences Education option designed for those passionate about teaching in junior or senior high school settings or for those interested in Extension or a variety of community, family, and youth service organizations. Our program provides courses covering a range of subjects including foods and nutrition, family health, human development, apparel and textiles, family resource management, family communication, and interior design.

Certification and Career Ready

Upon graduation, you’ll be ready for state certification in Family and Consumer Sciences and Career and Technical Education. Additionally, our graduates find themselves well-prepared for fulfilling careers in various agencies and organizations dedicated to serving families within the community.

Requirements

  • Students must complete 24 credits, earning a GPA of at least 2.0, to be admitted to the Human Development major.
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.6 or better in all HD courses that apply to the option, including substitutions is required to (a) maintain admission in the major; and (b) complete the Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development.
  • Of the 49 HD credits required for the major and Family & Consumer Sciences option, a minimum of 21 must be taken at WSU.
