Student Success through Transformational Change: Creating Connection to Values and Purpose

Dr. Laura Hill and Denise Yost are PIs on a multi-year grant (2016-2021), supported by the Provost’s office, in which we will train faculty to implement experiential teaching pedagogies and brief behavioral interventions that have been shown to increase student success. Using implementation and dissemination research approaches from prevention science, the goals of the project are to increase student resilience, retention, and academic success through increasing their sense of purpose, their belief that they can succeed (“growth mindset”), their connection to the university and to important adults, and their academic and life skills. Creating Connection to Values and Purpose includes faculty from four campuses, twelve departments, and five administrative units. Human Development/Prevention Science faculty Drs. Matthew Bumpus and Brittany Cooper are also investigators on the grant. Students will have opportunities to participate in multiple aspects of this project.
