DBHR Prevention Fellowship Program

Future Cohorts of Prevention Fellows

We hope to begin recruiting for Cohort 12 in the coming months!  To express interest in future cohorts, reach out to clara.hill@wsu.edu.

About the Fellowship

Washington State Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) has been working towards increasing targeted substance use prevention and mental health promotion funding to the highest risk communities in Washington through the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI) since 2011.

In 2019, WA DBHR and IMPACT Lab PIs Dr. Laura Hill and Dr. Brittany Cooper  partnered to create and supervise the DBHR Fellowship program. As of 2023, the PI of the program is Clara Hill. The fellowship program is a 9-10 month fellowship that aims to expand the field of substance use disorder prevention and actively build capacity in communities that do not currently benefit from CPWI, and in the long run, to expand the prevention workforce in Washington State.

The fellowship can be broken down in to three phases: Phase 1 in Olympia, Washington working within the DBHR office; Phase 2 in an existing CPWI community in Washington State, acting as a mentee under a current CPWI Coalition Coordinator; and Phase 3 in a high-need community.
