Biography
I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and was an army brat for the first five years of my life. We settled in a tiny town (Grace) in southern Idaho, where my father was a doctor, and I spent my growing-up years there. I am mom to five adult children: Michael, Tamara, Craig, Deborah, and Brett.
I had been a nurse for many years, when I decided to further my education. My youngest son and I graduated together; he with a high school diploma and I with a Ph.D. in Family and Human Development. Hence the career change into academics and research and the move to Washington State University.
As an avid reader (of non-fiction in particular), I am currently interested in social issues, human behavior, and biographies of presidents of the United States. On the lighter side, I am a fan of Tom Clancy, John Grisham, and Amy Tan. After reading "The Poisonwood Bible," I now include Barbara Kingsolver on my list of favorite authors. I like many genre's of music. However, although I take a lot of lighthearted teasing from friends and colleagues, I am a hard core fan of Neil Diamond--especially since I met him in person during the summer of 1999.
People interest me very much. I enjoy teaching, and I am interested in students' philosophies of life and their reasons for taking courses in the department of human development. Research, too, is exciting. I enjoy the quest for new information.
