Louise Parker
Director of Extension Family Programs and Extension Family and Community Development Specialist
Louise Parker provides leadership for Extension Family Programs across the state. She also co-directs the federal Children Youth and Families at Risk (CYFAR) project as part of her responsibilities as an Extension Specialist based in the Human Development Department. Louise is also a member of the Strengthening Families Program team which integrates the department’s commitment to prevention research with Extension’s educational outreach to youth and families. She is particularly interested in culturally competent approaches to program development and evaluation.

- M.S., family resource management, Oregon State University (1979)
- Ph.D., human development and family studies, Oregon State University (1992)
- Certified administrator, Intercultural Development Inventory (2005)
Professional Experience
Dr. Parker has worked for Extension in county, state and administrative roles for over 20 years. She has substantial experience with multi-state, agency and interdisciplinary collaborations. Her more recent experience is in bridging the research and outreach missions of the institution by facilitating projects in which researchers and extension faculty partner to improve the quality of community-based educational programs. Louise is also active in promoting Extension’s diversity initiative and serves as a member of the training team that offers cultural competency training for extension educators.
Current Research
The current focus of Dr. Parker’s research is exploring culturally competent approaches to program evaluation through the dissemination of the Strengthening Families Program to diverse communities. She is also interested in projects that can potentially bridge prevention in the health sciences with methodologies from prevention research in the social sciences.
