Undergraduate Studies Overview


The Bachelor of Arts in Human Development provides students with a broad program of study that addresses human development and family relations across the life-span, as well as the interaction of individuals and families within the community environment. Students may graduate with a general HD degree or they may opt to specialize and receive a certifcate in one of four areas:

(1) Early Childhood

(2) Adolescence

(3) Gerontology

(4) Family Studies

In addition, two teaching certification programs are available for HD majors:

Students with a BA in Human Development have a variety of career options. HD graduates work with and teach children in a variety of contexts including schools, child care centers, and Child Protective Services. Other career opportunities include counseling adolescents, working with the Juvenile Justice system, working in family service and family crisis centers, and working with organizations that provide services for aging individuals.
