Observation policies
- All students must be enrolled in a course or sponsored by a faculty member
- All student observers must sign in with their name and course number upon entering the CDL (see clipboard on top of cubbies just inside front door)
- Conduct your observation from the observation booth. If you feel you need to be in the classroom to conduct your observation, you must receive permission from the supervising teacher.
- Refrain from talking while in the observation booth.
- Eating/drinking is not permitted in the observation booth.
- Children wear name tags for purposes of identification. You will find the children’s name and birthdate listed inside the observation booth.
- Observers may follow when children leave the classroom to play outside or in the hallway.
- If you observe outside of the observation booth, remain as unobtrusive as possible. Sit or kneel at the perimeter of groups of children. If children approach you, tell them you are busy working; do not engage them further.
- To protect the confidentiality of the children in the CDL, written assignments should protect the identity of the child. In your assignment refer to the child by something other than his or her actual name. For example, Child “A” or “John” or “Sue” can be substituted for the child’s name.
