Child Development Labratory

CDL Objectives

  • To provide a high quality preschool program for young children.
  • To help students (through observation and participation) to learn more about young children and families.
  • To train teachers of young children.
  • To acquaint advanced students with methods of research.
  • To advance knowledge related to child growth and development through research with young children and their families.

The program provides a variety of cognitive, physical, and social experiences for young children to help them to develop their optimal potential and to enjoy fully the years of early childhood. The WSU Child Development Laboratory serves children of faculty, staff, students and community members.

Parents are always welcome to visit or to assist in the program. Numerous other visitors also observe the preschool in order to learn more about children and early childhood programs.

For 70 years the program operated in the Home Economics Building (aka White Hall). In the fall of 2001 we moved into a new space under the roof of the WSU Children's Center (the full-day child care facility operated by the Division of Student Affairs, Equity and Diversity). We invite all of you to come and visit our new facility to learn about or reacquaint yourselves with the Lab School in Human Development.
